Police credit social media in ID’ing woman found dead in N.J. park

New Jersey State Police on Friday said investigators have identified a woman who was found dead earlier this month along the shore of Waterfront Park in Carteret.

“As a result of social media, the victim has been identified. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share the post,” the State Police said on Twitter.

The agency issued a public plea for help to identify the woman this week after she was found Feb. 2. A State Police detective with the forensic imaging unit created a sketch of the woman, which was released on social media.

In a statement, Carteret officials said the woman died from drowning and “there were no signs of trauma or foul play.”

A police spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
