Have you been keeping up with the latest Kim Kardashian versus Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, saga?
Yeah, neither have I. But there are a ton of people who are seemingly invested in what happens with the social media presence of a child of this former power couple, and this very public divorce continues to draw attention. More specifically, there are people out here wagging their fingers and clutching their pearls over whether this pair’s daughter North West, 8, should be on TikTok and social media. They have a second daughter named Chicago, 4.
We’re all busy so I’ll just cut the chase: It’s too late to unring that bell.
You have to understand and remember that we’re talking about superstars who have made their fame and wealth, in part, through social media. These are actually influencers, who spend a great deal of time curating a social media image for the world to see. Like it or not, that includes their children. That’s especially true of the Kardashians.
So now we’re all supposed to agree with Ye’s latest rant and rage against their child being on social media?
Why? These are millionaires who have already convinced the masses that their daily lives and overall opinions somehow matter. Ye is a music and fashion mogul. Kardashian is a wealthy famous person turned businesswoman.
That can’t happen in this era of celebrity without a massive social media following that, again, includes children.
The TikTok account in question, which Kardashian shares with daughter North, has 5.8 million followers and more than 63 million likes. That’s our fault.
The best thing we can do is examine how much interest and effort we put into making influencers and their children more famous and perhaps start being more critical of our own role in amplifying their social footprint. Do you want North West to get off social media? Stop talking about it. If enough of us unfollow and disengage, so will they.
It’s too late to worry about her TikToks. That ship has sailed and been shared too many times.
